What is Corian?

Corian is a solid, non-porous, homogeneous surface material consisting of ± 1/3 acrylic resin (also known as PolyMethyl Metacrylate or PMMA) and ± 2/3 natural minerals. The main natural mineral is Aluminum TriHydrate (ATH), which is obtained from bauxite, an ore from which aluminum is extracted.

Resistant

Since its launch in 1967, Corian has proven itself to be an extremely durable material that makes life easier. It is not delaminated and resists wear and tear from daily use. It is resistant to many effects, cuts and abrasions of heavy traffic areas. Corian has been tested for mechanical, thermal, electrical and other surface properties. You can find specific test reports and details on Corian's other physical characteristics from the Technical data sheet at www.corian.com.

Hygienic

Corian is a non-porous material. The material is completely solid and the joints are produced indefinitely, these properties make the surface hygienic. Corian surfaces prevent bacterial and fungal growth. Corian has been certified by an independent laboratory as a hygienic material according to DIN EN ISO 846, an international standard.

Repairable

The surfaces designed with Corian can be easily reverted to their original appearance with mild abrasive detergents and a scrubbing sponge. For example, cigarette burns can be easily removed by this method. Misuse and accidental damage can often be repaired on site without having to completely replace the material.

Harmless

Corian is a chemically inert and non-toxic material. Does not emit gas at normal room temperature. When burned, it essentially releases Carbon Oxides and the smoke produced is very light in color and does not contain halogenated harmful gases. Thanks to these features, Corian is used extensively and safely in public areas with applications such as airport counters, as walls and work surfaces in hospital operating theaters and intensive care rooms and passenger ships.

Massive

The color and textures remain the same in depth of the material and do not corrode. Corian is massive and does not delaminate.

Unspecified Joints

Applications designed with Corian can only limit your imagination. Corian surfaces can be joined indefinitely by providing virtually unlimited design options. For example, long counters can be assembled in the assembly area by producing parts in workshops. Edge details can also be strengthened to make it look thicker.

Thermoformable

Corian can be molded into wood or metal molds at controlled temperatures to create 2D and 3D designs. Embossing effects can also be created using special printing techniques.

Translucent

Corian's semi-light transmittance is particularly noticeable in light colors and thin plates. Many designers use this feature in lighting effects or lamp design in different applications. The new color group Illumination Series consists of 6 colors in 6 mm and 12.3 mm plates with increased transparency to create special lighting effects.

Treated like wood

Corian can be processed like wood using similar tools. Most Corian manufacturers are experts in carpentry.

Colored

Corian offers an almost unlimited color palette to work with. You can create a flat base with a single color for design; or try to catch a glamorous fit. Corian also has metal, wood, stone and so on. It can also be used as a versatile complement to such materials.

Environment Friendly

Corian is manufactured to strict standards to limit waste and energy consumption at all stages of the production process. The product has received GREEN GUARD Indoor AirQuality approval, since the material itself and the sealant used for adhesives and the sealant emit very little from volatile organic compounds.
